Helping children affected by conflict in the Middle East

One to One Children's Fund is supporting a counselling programme for Palestinian and Israeli children affected by conflict.

In March, the Palestinian and Israeli experts who jointly run the counselling project visited London, presenting team work at the Tavistock Clinic and to Parliamentary groups. They also raised funds for a pilot project in three primary schools in Israel and Palestine. More information on their visit is available here.

Counselling for families affected by conflict in Kosovo

One to One Children's Fund runs two counselling centres in Kosovo, which help children and parents suffering the psychological consequences of political turmoil and war.

The counselling centres also do outreach work, helping families in 50 villages and 35 schools across Kosovo.

In May 2008, One to One Children's Fund entered into a partnership agreement with the Kosovo government to run counselling training courses for social workers to meet the growing need for professional counselling services among the people in Kosovo.

Treating HIV-infected children in South Africa

One to One Children's Fund runs a number of projects across South Africa that treat and provide support to HIV-infected children.

In the Western Cape, we have entered into a partnership with the provincial government to help support the treatment of more than 2500 infected children at Groote Schuur Hospital and a number of orphanages and clinics in the region.

In the Eastern Cape, we have helped set up fully-equipped HIV/AIDS treatment units for children at two hospitals, where we employ trained healthcare professionals to run a life-saving anti-retroviral treatment support programme for more than 1000 children.

Paediatric AIDS Treatment for Africa (PATA)

World AIDS Day 2008: the 4th PATA Forum was held in Rwanda from 25-29 November 2008. The conference themes this year included "care of the very young infant", as recent research shows that 60% of children born with HIV will die before they reach the age of 2, unless they have access to appropriate treatment.

The Forum also focused on the role of nutrition in treating HIV-infected children and on special difficulties faced by children and their carers in conflict areas.

43 clinic teams, which included nutritionists for the first time,  from 17 African countries participated in the forum this year and set their goals for the coming year. For further information on the PATA Forum, please go to
